Angling

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

Angling is the term used to describe the ability for a character to aim or direct a forward tilt or forward smash. This is especially easy for characters with attacks that have disjointed hitboxes for their attacks, such as either Mario or R.O.B. Other than increasing range, this technique is a great way to edge-guard and damage smaller targets.

[edit] How to perform

Hold the control stick up or down diagonally while charging a smash attack, then release while still holding the control stick in the desired direction. The attack will come out a different way than usual.

[edit] Characters that can angle their attacks

In all games, certain characters were able to aim their tilts and/or smashes. A prime example is Mario, who can aim his forward tilt and smash in every game up to date. For some characters, however, such as Link, aiming is impossible due to the way their F-tilt and/or F-smash is executed. There are even characters who can only angle their F-tilt, examples being Lucario and Pikachu.

[edit] Notes

There is no way possible to angle any D-smash, D-tilt, U-tilt, or U-smash in any of the Smash Bros. games.
