Articuno is a legendary Pokémon that appears out of Poké Balls in Melee. Articuno's appearance is rare since it is a legendary Pokémon. Its chance of appearing out of a Poké Ball is doubled in the event matchLegendary Pokémon. Articuno uses Blizzard as its attack, where it will unleash a blast of ice from its body. Any character that is in Blizzard's attack radius will take damage and be frozen for a few seconds, much like being affected by a Freezie. Characters that are affected by Articuno's Blizzard will also be sent towards the top of the screen; lighter characters will have a good chance of dying at low percentages from this attack. Articuno's attack does not harm the summoner.
Clouds gather, the barometer plunges, and fresh snow falls from the frigid air when this legendary Pokémon takes wing. Graceful and elegant, it boasts long tail feathers that flap in the wind and are lovely to behold. As would be expected, its combat moves are based on its cold nature; they include Ice Beam and Blizzard. (Pokémon Red & Blue 09/98)
