Azelf is one of the legendary psychic Pokémon found in Sinnoh and is one of the legendary lake trio, along with Uxie and Mesprit, that were believed to be born from the same egg. Azelf first appeared in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl as well as Pokemon Platinum. Azelf is known as "The Being of Willpower", and it is said that its birth and its first flight gave humans the determination to do things. It is also said that its sleeping at the bottom of a lake keeps the world in balance.
It has a small blue body about the size of Mew,with two long tails. Both of its tails have a red gem in them,and it is identical to Uxie and Mesprit,with the exception of its head. It has a blue, almost cone-shaped head with a red jewel embedded in its forehead and also two blue dropping extensions, as well as yellow eyes. If a human attempts to harm it, Azelf will drain the victim's will to live in five days and make him immobile for all eternity.
Azelf can be found in Valor Cavern, a cave at the bottom of Lake Valor, one of the three mystic lakes of Sinnoh. Lake Valor was bombed by Team Galactic in an effort to reach Valor Cavern and capture Azelf to help build the Red Chain to capture Dialga/Palkia at Spear Pillar. Azelf is very popular in competitive play in the Pokémon RPGs for powerful offensive statistics.

Pearl: It is thought that Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf all came from the same egg.
Platinum: When Azelf flew, people gained the determination to do things. It was the birth of willpower.

It randomly appears in the background of the stage Spear Pillar, along with Uxie and Mesprit, but they have no effect on the battle. Azelf also appears as a Trophy in the game.

A Willpower Pokémon. Born from the same Egg as Uxie and Mesprit, this Pokémon maintains the balance of things in the world from the bottom of Lake Valor. Some say that anyone who injures it will become unable to perform any kind of action after seven days. It wields many strong attacks, like the devastating Last Resort. It can also protect itself from sleep attacks with Uproar.
