Duster
From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki
Duster is a character in the EarthBound universe, debuting in the Japan-only MOTHER 3.
[edit] Character description
Duster is a thief who joins Flint during chapter 1 of Mother 3, in which He helps Flint climb the mountains and fight the reconstructed Caribou. In Chapter 2, the player takes control of Duster, who infiltrates Osohe Castle in order to find the hummingbird egg, after finding it, however, he is washed down the river and goes missing for 3 years. at the end of Chapter 4 he joins Lucas and his party, however they are separated until Chapter 7, where Duster is found tied up in Saturn Valley after falling from the Mother Porkship at the end of Chapter 5. He then joins the party until the end of the game.
Duster limps when he walks due to an accident, which is never clearly described. Wess, Duster's father, tells his son that he could be blamed for his limp, but never clearly admits to it. Duster utilizes mainly kicking attacks (although he can equip some items with the 'shoot' attack type) and his variety of thieves' tools, which consist of wall staples, a siren beetle, a scary mask, a tickling feather, a hypnosis pendulum, and a smoke bomb. None of these items are consumed upon use.
Duster is also a skilled musician, playing an instrument that appears to be a double bass with the band 'DCMC' while going under the pseudonym of 'Lucky' and wearing an afro wig.
Duster is described as a kind man and appears to be in his late 20s/early 30s. He lives with his father, Wess, who taught him how to be a thief, despite the fact that neither he nor Wess actually steals anything before the game takes place.
[edit] In Super Smash Brothers Brawl
He makes his cameo in SSBB as a sticker. His sticker ability increases Leg Attack +4 (likely a reference to the fact that in MOTHER 3, his main weapons consisted of various shoes) and is only available to Ness and Lucas.
[edit] Trivia
- Duster's limp is noticeable even when his sprite changes, i.e. when he wears a disguise.
- Despite having a limp, Duster has the second-highest raw attack power of the final team, is the only character to kick, and runs at the same speed as everyone else.
- Despite being a "thief", he is generally approved of by his neighbors, and is not guilty of the only case of theft in Mother 3.
- In Mother 3, Duster was the only person to actually wield the Rope Snake, which Lucas uses to grab foes in SSBB.
- Duster was rumored to have appeared as an Assist Trophy in versions of the game played at the 2007 Whobby Game Festival, along with other Assist Trophies not present in the final game, including Ridley, Rosalina, and Muddy Mole. Because there is no evidence of these Assist Trophies in the game's coding or otherwise, the rumors are generally considered to be false.
