Farore's Wind

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

Farore's Wind in Brawl

Farore's Wind is Zelda's Up B move.

A yellow ribbon of magic spins around Zelda, causing her to disappear. After that, she will reappear in the direction held on the control stick (or up if the control stick is not moved). The initial ribbon spinning is capable of damaging opponents that touch it. In Brawl, it teleports slightly less distance but also creates a small explosion (similar to the one made by the initial part of Sheik's Vanish) upon reappearing, dealing some damage and knockback. Farore's Wind is hard to sweet-spot the ledge with.

[edit] Origin

It is based on a spell with the same name from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Link could use it to mark a place in a Dungeon and then return to that warp point at a later time. It is the spell which is representative of Farore, the Goddess of Courage.

[edit] Burndown

A new tactic arises from this move, in Brawl, due to the added explosion hitbox when Zelda reappears. When sent in the air, with enemy(s) below waiting to juggle you, or smash you out: use Farore's Wind when they are directly below you, and tilt straight down. They won't suspect this, as FW is usually used defensively to escape. You will appear and burn those below, and because of its very high priority, it will knock through all of their attacks, and clear a good bit of space due to its set horizontal knockback, even at 0% damage. Then, as they run in at you from both sides again, Nayru's Love can catch them all.(This was removed in PAL)

[edit] Trivia

  • This move is often used in the subspace emissary, it is faster than running.
  • The tactic above can be countered by throwing a projectile upwasrd as she disappears or by using a range attack that goes up such as Ness' PK Thunder
