Grand Viper is a nickname for a technique available to Ike. It involves using a whiffed Quick Draw as a spacing measure, providing a quick boost of speed in one direction, similar to the wavedash, and then following up with another attack. The Quick Draw can be followed up by any number of attacks, but up-tilt is one of the better options.
[edit] How to do It
- Use Quick Draw, making sure not to hit the opponent
- Immediately afterwards, follow up with the move of your choice, typically up-tilt
- Ike should have dashed a fair distance (depending on how long you hold Quick Draw) and used an attack instantly.
[edit] Application
- Provided that you can get the Quick Draw to whiff, it will immediately lead to up-tilt.
- It allows Ike to escape quickly from an accidentally whiffed Quick Draw.
- The Quick Draw and up-tilt have low recovery time, so it is difficult to approach Ike during or after a Grand Viper.
[edit] Trivia
- The name may be derived from a move of the character "Sol Badguy" from a popular 2-D sprite based fighting game called Guilty Gear. It is very similar to the SSBB Grand Viper involving a dash forward and then a quick but powerful hit upward. However, the Grand Viper of Guilty Gear has a flame effect and is all one attack rather than a string of attacks in SSBB.
