Link, Linebeck and his ship

[edit] In The Legend of Zelda series

Linebeck appears in the game The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. He seems to be a coward; who claims to be a tough sailor, determined to do anything, while in reality, he'd rather just sit back and enjoy the ride. At the game's beginning, he orders Link to do most of the work for him, and agrees only to maintain the boat. However, he has big dreams of gaining vast wealth and treasure and this reason is mainly why he decided to let Link borrow his boat in the first place. He slowly becomes less cowardly, though he admittedly never performs any real action except just maintaining the boat and directing Link to his next destination.

Mid-way through the game, when Tetra is found to be a statue, the Ocean King promises Linebeck any wish he desires if the heroes can free his soul, and life force, from Bellum (a black and green squid-like creature and the game's primary enemy). At the end of the game Link and Linebeck board the Ghost Ship which has been possesed by Bellum, who has kidnapped Tetra. When it is wrecked, Linebecks's prized ship is destroyed by the debris, and Bellum captures Link. Linebeck plucks up the courage to free him but afterwards, Bellum captures Linebeck's body, and keeps it in his posession. Link must then fight the posessed Linebeck to finish the game. When the Ocean King finally grants Linebeck his wish, he has changed his mind since his greedy desires at the start of the game and instead wishes only for his ship to be returned to him.
