Peach Parasol (ピーチパラソル, Peach Parasol) is Peach's Up Special Move. Peach leaps up into the air, holding her Parasol above her. At the apex of her jump, she will open the parasol and float down gently. The parasol does damage at all times of the animation. Once in the air floating, control is similar to using the Parasol item in Melee. If Peach has the Parasol item, she will use that item for the attack rather than her own. Daisy wields an identical move of her own called Daisy Parasol.

Overview[]

Peach leaps up into the air, holding her Parasol above her. At the apex of her jump, she will open the parasol and float down gently. The parasol does damage at all times of the animation. Once in the air floating, control is similar to using the Parasol item. If Peach has the Parasol item, she will use that item for the attack rather than her own.

While floating, it is possible to move left or right via directional influence. If down is pressed, Peach will close her umbrella, fall at normal speed, and become helpless. Pressing up again will open her umbrella and allow her to float again, although altitude cannot be regained.

The move returns in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, however, its appearance is based on her Parasol from "Yoshi's Island DS" and/or "Super Paper Mario". It also allows greater vertical horizontal recovery in Brawl than it did in Melee, however, Peach cannot grab a ledge behind her while she is gliding with her parasol.

Custom Variations[]

In Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, Peach Parasol can be customized into Parasol High Jump or Light Parasol.

Parasol High Jump[]

Parasol High Jump causes Peach to jump higher into the air faster, but she won't pull out her Parasol, effectively eliminating her horizontal recovery.

Strengths:

  • Increased vertical recovery
  • Easier to grab edge

Weaknesses:

  • Cannot attack on the way down
  • Very little horizontal movement during ascent and descent
  • Cannot deal damage

The Parasol High Jump allows Peach to go for deeper off-stage kills or gimps since the move has greatly increased vertical height. It does not have much horizontal distance at all and does not deal damage, resulting in the loss of a great combo finisher and killing move. It is easier to grab the edge with this move since the parasol will not open up and prevent it, something the default Peach Parasol sometimes struggled with.

Light Parasol[]

Light Parasol reduces Peach's jump height, but opening her Parasol will give her a little more vertical height.

Strengths:

  • Great horizontal movement
  • Parasol can be closed and reopened once to gain an extra boost in height if needed, but Peach will go helpless afterwards
  • Faster movement

Weaknesses:

  • Hard to hit with
  • Less vertical distance
  • No real combo opportunities or killing power; less damage

The Light Parasol is an excellent move for horizontal movement but the initial jump has less vertical distance; however, when the parasol opens, Peach gains a small boost in vertical height. The parasol can be closed an reopened once in order to gain a second boost in vertical height, but Peach will go into a helpless state right after this happens, and if Peach goes helpless without the player inputting down, it means they cannot use the secondary boost. The move is difficult to hit opponents with and even so it deals little damage and knockback and so it cannot reliably combo into anything or kill opponents. Peach moves much faster when the parasol is open in the air though granting it even better horizontal recovery options.

Trivia[]

  • In Brawl, the parasol changes color depending on Peach's costume.
  • In the Subspace Emissary, Peach is shown giving her parasol to the rescued Mr. Game & Watch during a cutscene aboard the Halberd, where he starts playing and acting with it soon after.
