[edit] Ranking System

After Sakuracon 2007, the administrators of Seattle Smash were discussing the success of Sakuracon Smash tournament and they began thinking about how the beginner and amateur smashers who attended the tournament. They began to think of ways to help the growth of these players, to help them improve and become stronger smashers. Thus, the unique Seattle Smash ranking system came to be. Instead of assigning a certain rank in latter form, similar to Power Rankings, players were simply given a rank from 1 to 6, in which there could be 100 players with rank 1 and 1 player with rank 6. With that a smasher could, in fact, stay at a certain rank forever if they choose not to improve. To improve and gain a higher rank, one must smash with 1 of 5 mentors. For each rank, there is 1 mentor, excluding rank 1. In order to win and obtain that given rank, one must follow the following rules. One must defeat that mentor 3 times in a row on the stages, Battlefield, Pokemon Stadium and Final Destination. However, one cannot lose once, or the set is done, leaving you with your previous rank.
