Single Button Mode

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

(Redirected from Single-Button)

Single Button is a Special Melee option in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The only input the game accepts in Single Button is the Control Stick, the Start/Pause Button, and the A button, thus only allowing for standard attacks. One cannot even manually drop items or use the C-stick for smash attacks. This also requires players to press Up in order to jump, instead of X or Y. Since special moves cannot be used, characters such as Yoshi, Kirby, and Jigglypuff (who either don't need or don't have triple jumps) are easy to win as, while characters with essential special moves or bad double jumps (such as Bowser and Zelda) find it very hard to stay alive. Characters who need to shield or dodge frequently also have a hard time.

Single Button mode is not in Brawl. This is likely because of multiple reasons:

  • Final Smashes could not be used, causing a Final Smash-ready character to be "stuck" in that state.
  • Pokemon Trainer would be unable to switch his Pokemon when they get tired.
  • Olimar would become unplayable (to any reasonable degree) once his three starting Pikmin die.
  • A player holding a Cracker Launcher would be unable to manually get rid of it.

Although the mode is not in Brawl, there is nothing stopping a player from configuring their controller so that all buttons are standard attacks.
