Smart Bomb

The Smart Bomb is an item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is one of the most powerful thrown items in the game. Upon impact with an opponent or obstacle, or after traveling a certain distance through the air, the Smart Bomb will explode in a circular blast, getting larger and larger until it stops. It deals fair damage and has high knockback. If caught in the blast, you or your opponent's damage meter will quickly rise until the explosion stops, at which point you or your opponent will get sent flying from knockback. It seems you can only DI out of the blast by moving above or below it, but not left or right.

[edit] Pros:
- When thrown at groups of opponents, it leaves them incapacitated for a short while.
- If opponent(s) damage is/are around 45% and up, the smart bomb will easily bring their damage meter to the hundreds, and possibly KO them.
- The Smart Bomb, when thrown at a Smash Ball, will stop opponents around it from claiming it, and usually it will break it, claiming it for your own use.
- If a Smart Bomb hits a Smash Ball and nobody has thrown it, none of the characters in play will be rewarded with a Final Smash for use if the Smash Ball breaks.

- It is very easy to misjudge the radius of its blast, and get caught in the explosion.
- The bomb may be a dud and not explode on impact or a short time after being thrown. A dud bomb may have a delayed detonation at any time, even if being held after its initial throw.
- Striking a foe holding the bomb may cause them to drop it, and subsequently damage it and prompt it to explode, enveloping both.
- With smash DI, an opponent can easily escape the blast before taking much damage.
- Sometimes, the bomb does not explode and instead hits the foe and flys on past them, making a whistling sound as it sails past and dealing no knockback and little damage. This is a "faulty Smart Bomb".
Warning: When using the Smart Bomb, throw at least 6 character lengths away, or you will be caught in the edge of the blast, but the bomb will gradually move you towards the center, causing more damage.

A bomb that explodes and causes damage to all characters within its range when thrown or attacked. The explosion from this device is so large, the deployer may be caught in the blast if he or she is not careful. In Star Fox, this item will explode after a set time or can be set off immediately with a button press.

The Smart Bomb comes from the Star Fox series. It was originally named Nova Bomb. In Star Fox Assault, it could either be locked on to opponents or triggered to explode after launch by pressing the button a second time. It also would explode on impact, or after it traveled a certain distance. It did not hurt Fox or his wingmen.
