Zirk is a Smasher from North Carolina who is currently the dominant player in the Strategy Club at Cardinal Gibbons. He started playing Super Smash Bros. in 2001 when SSBM came out, but didn't develop true skill at the game until 2007, since he lost his game disc for three years. When he joined the Strategy Club, Zirk quickly picked up on new skills and throughout his high school life has comfortably held a position in the top three smashers of the club.

[edit] Style

Zirk has an extremely aggressive playing style, even for characters like Peach or Jigglypuff, where this is very dangerous. Most matches Zirk plays are 4-man free-for-alls, where he takes a predatorial approach to the match, singling out his biggest threats and eliminating them first before moving on to the next player. Zirk also enjoys doubles battles, since he tends to get double-teamed by his opponents. Since Zirk plays team matches with friendly fire on, he can use extensive mind tricks to have his enemies damage each other, which throws their team synergy completely off. A prime example of this is a match Zirk played against a team of Falco and Captain Falcon. Zirk had one stock, the Falco player had one stock, and Captain Falcon had 2. Zirk managed to dodge a Falcon Punch while tossing Falco into it instead. With the match down to one-on-one, Zirk quickly won. In 1v1 games, Zirk plays an erratic mix of hit-and-run tactics and super aggressive fast-paced combo attacks. In some 1v1 matches Zirk goes whole minutes without trying to attack the enemy, but rather hopping around them dodging attacks. Zirk is also very fond of suicide KOs, since he usually has enough leftover lives to use risky tactics.

[edit] Character History

Zirk Has gone through a multitude of main characters, trying to find the one that best suited him. His favorite characters are the ones with good aerial movement and aerial attacks, and he often uses characters no one else likes to use.

[edit] Mario

Zirk first played as Mario when he got Melee. As Mario, he played a lot more smash attacks and the f-air meteor. However, Zirk's Mario never really got that good, because he lost the game for two years and would change characters when he found it in his basement under a rocking chair cushion.

[edit] Kirby

After returning to the Smash scene, Zirk started playing as Kirby. He liked the aerial freedom that Kirby had and his ridiculous recovery. Zirk's Kirby used a lot of slow smash attacks like Mario, which didn't work out for him.

[edit] Jigglypuff

Jigglypuff was Zirk's next character phase. Jigglypuff's faster air attacks and OHKO move Rest were favorites of Zirk while playing Jiggs. At his peak as Jigglypuff, Zirk had Rest combos down to an art form, using mind games and throw combos to land the KO. In SSBB, Zirk has reprised Jigglypuff as a counter to one of his rivals. He may pick up Jigglypuff once again as an alternate.

[edit] Peach

Peach was Zirk's final main character in Melee. He displayed the most improvement as Peach over any of his other characters. Zirk is able to pull off several nifty maneuvers with Peach, including stunningly coordinated juggling tricks with turnips and chain grabs. Zirk has since settled on playing as Peach, and has gone longer playing Peach than any other character he has mained.

Zirk has recently started playing as Peach again in Brawl, and once again uses her in most of his matches. Zirk's Brawl Peach plays similarly to his Melee style, but without emphasis on f-throws and d-smashes.

[edit] Meta Knight

Meta Knight was the first character Zirk tried out when SSBB came out. Zirk's Meta Knight plays extremely aggressively, and almost never lets up on the infinite combo opportunities Meta Knight offers. Zirk also enjoys playing Meta Knight a lot more than he did Peach, which increases the amount of work he actually puts into being good at Meta Knight.

[edit] Olimar

After Meta Knight was declared a god-tier character, Zirk lost a lot of motivation to play him. Zirk spent a couple of weeks scrolling through the roster trying to find a new main, and he picked up Olimar incredibly fast. Zirk has since settled on Olimar as a main in Brawl. The reason for this was that Zirk particularly likes to play as characters none of his peers think are very good, which was his main drive for playing Peach in Melee. Zirk's Olimar is unique from most of his other character play styles. He likes to stay in the center of the match, bouncing back and forth between his opponents with an uncanny ability to keep up with which pikmin are up next in his lineup. Because of this, Zirk can often KO an opponent only to turn around and set up the next killing combo before the opponent even gets to him. Zirk's debut with Olimar came as a complete surprise and shocked all of his friends, who had spent that week practicing their Meta Knight games. After another extensive break from smash, Zirk lost a lot of his once-God-like talent with Olimar. In August 2009, Zirk returned from serious re-training over the summer, and has now brought his Olimar to new heights.

[edit] Lucario

Since losing his touch with Olimar, Zirk took Lucario on a spontaneous test drive in April of 2009 and found that he liked the intense, high-risk play style of the character. In his school's Brawl Championship Tourney, Zirk had the two best brawls of his career against his rivals' Wolf and Marth, respectively. Both matches, Zirk came back from a 2-stock loss to win the game. Zirk has now made a trademark out of slow starts with Lucario.

[edit] Stages

As the reigning champion of Smash among his friends, Zirk is always given the choice of stage when playing. His favorite stages include, but are not limited to-

[edit] Senior Year

Now in his senior year of high school, Zirk has risen above all the brawlers at Gibbons, having gone completely undefeated all year. He has since pulled himself away from actually brawling at the Strategy Club, and instead sits back and watches matches, issuing commentary and watching for new talent.

[edit] Trivia

  • Mario is the only character Zirk does not wear a green costume for. He wears blue instead.
  • Zirk once KO'd three people at once using Jigglypuff's Rest attack.
  • Zirk adheres to a strict code of fair play when playing smash, usually targeting players with more stock than everyone else and SDing when he has more lives to even out the match.
  • Zirk's greatest match of all time was a 1-on-1 between him and his friend/rival Sean Magee. In a 4-stock match, Sean's Wolf took Zirk's Lucario down 2 stock before Zirk came back to win the match. At 133% and 121% respectively, Zirk and Sean went the last 5 minutes of the match without landing a hit on each other until Zirk spot-dodged a forward-smash and responded with a down-smash of his own to KO Sean. Sean has sworn revenge, but has yet to formally achieve it.
  • Zirk knows every character's moveset extensively, and thus can play most characters at a skilled level, similar to Azen. Because of this, Zirk sometimes takes a vote at the beginning of a match on what character he should use.
  • After getting Brawl, Zirk went back to play Melee once, and found he had lost all skill in Melee, losing to a lvl 4 CPU in a match.
  • Other characters in Brawl that Zirk enjoys using not mentioned above include Captain Falcon, Zero Suit Samus, Zelda, and King DeDeDe.
  • Despite Zirk's utter hatred of Pit, He happens to be the best Pit player among his friends after winning an all-Pit free-for-all.
  • Zirk promotes use of items in matches, since it tends to make things funnier. Unfortunately, his friends don't let that happen a lot.
  • Zirk can chain Zelda's Foot of Destiny on training dummies.
