Star Fox (スター フォックス, Sutā Fokkusu) (known as Star Wing in Europe due to trademark issues) is the first game in the Star Fox series of video games. It was released in the spring of 1993 for the SNES. Developed by Nintendo EAD and programmed by Argonaut Software, it used the Super FX chip to simulate 3D graphics during a period of predominately 2D games. In Star Fox, Fox McCloud and his team, Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare, and Falco Lombardi, take on Andross, who threatens to overthrow the Lylat system.

Fox McCloud, who made his debut in this game and is the main character of the series, is a playable character in all three Super Smash Bros. games. Falco Lombardi, who also made his debut in this game, is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl.But Peppy Hare and Slippy Toad are not playable characters, but they are rumored to appear on a future SSB game by some fans. The songs Main Theme (Star Fox), Corneria and Space Armada are featured in Brawl on the Lylat Cruise stage.

Andross, the antagonist of Star Foxas the final boss, can be used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. as an assist trophy. He aids the user by shooting large tiles at foes that cause slightly severe damage. His SNES image of a ominous floating head in used in Brawl. In Star Fox 64, the remake of Star Fox, he was remodelled as an ominous floating chimpanzee.
