Super Mario RPG

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, released as simply Super Mario RPG (スーパーマリオRPG, Sūpā Mario Ārupījī?) in Japan, is a hybrid adventure/console role-playing game, developed by Square (now Square Enix) and published by Nintendo. Nintendo first released the game on March 9, 1996 in Japan and on May 13, 1996 in North America. Neither Nintendo nor Square ever released a PAL version until its virtual console release.

Super Mario RPG was the final Mario game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game console, as well as being one of the last games Square produced for a Nintendo console until Chocobo Land: A Game of Dice in 2002, for the GameBoy Advance. The game was developed mainly by Square (who later became Square Enix) with direct guidance from producer Shigeru Miyamoto.

[edit] Super Smash Bros. Series

  • The frying pan used in Peach's Forward smash in both Melee and Brawl is from this game.
  • Super Mario RPG was the first Mario game to have Peach using a parasol, and it was the only one at the time of Melee's development.
  • Mario's Final Smash may be loosely based on "Ultra Flame", where he had the ability to fire off a barrage of giant fireballs that damage all foes on the screen.
  • Mario's Up tilt in Brawl may have been influenced by his "Mega Glove" attack, where he would punch upward with a large glove.
  • Peach's neutral combo may have been based on "Super Slap", where Peach slaps her enemies.
  • Bowser's neutral combo, as well as his other clawing attacks, may have been influenced by "Drill Claw", where Bowser claws his enemies.
  • Peach's Final Smash may be loosely based on "Sleepy Time", where she had the ability to put enemies to sleep.
  • Bowser's back throw, when slowed down, looks similar to how he threw Mario at enemies with the "Hurly Gloves".
  • The Chancellor from Super Mario RPG appears as a sticker in Brawl.
