[edit] The TNR History

TNR, also known as Team No Respect, found it's roots last year during the month of November. Robert (Blues), Luis (ChaosKnight), and Rich (ChozenOne) were all sitting around playing smash, when one day Luis came upon a new computer. None of them thought much of this event at the time, but it was to be an event that changed the course of the crew. At this time Blues mained Marth, ChaosKnight mained Sheik, and ChozenOne mained Doc. Having quite the "interest" in the game Luis decided to do some research online, and found that there was a very prominent Smash community called Smash World Forums which had some pretty cool videos up of different smashers from around the country. At his home he had witnessed the Crew Battle of FC3 (between EastCoast, and WestCoast) and was immediately taken back in astonishment. He then proceeded to show ChozenOne, and Blues this same video clip which he too had viewed earlier.

As a result, Blues was very impressed by the showing of ChuDat with the Ice Climbers. Wanting to be original, and having an intense love for grabbing he slowly began to master the IceClimbers Desyncs, and had eventually perfected some smashing, and blizzard techniques. ChaosKnight was too devoted to Sheik to give her up entirely, but when Blues discovered the Ice Climber's chaingrab on Sheik he knew he had to make a change. He soon became a Ken worshipper, and began to work on a Fox after hearing that Ken was the best player in the world, and decided that he would be someday too. This all happened about the same time that ChozenOne began practicing with Peach, originally thinking her to be one of the worst characters in the game, but then realizing that her D-smash was powerful. He began to use her as his main.

They had all progressed to a level they had not earlier thought possible, and had now began seeking tournaments in their area. They went to tournaments expecting to win. They were wrong as the overwhelming compitetion proved too much for the newly formed crew. This all began happening during the January time frame, and this was also about the same time that the member's had all began creating their "Gamer ID's" on the boards. Blue's name takes it's roots from Japan. Surprisingly, Mega Man is known in Japan as "Rock Man", and Proto Man, who is Mega Man's rival, is known as Blues. ChaosKnight's name has always been somewhat of a mystery. ChozenOne is much more obscure in nature. It is guessed that the name is derived from the movie KUNG PAO.

This is about the same time they stumbled upon JTyme's "tournament". Of course, not knowing JTyme's smashing reputation, TNR began making plans to attend his tournament down south. However, Jtyme had to cancel the plans, but he did promise to host another tournament in hopes of easing the smash community's negative disposition. He did not deliver. His next tournament was cancelled as well, but in hopes of giving smashers who traveled far to reach his tournament of legend. This was the first tournament ChozenOne, Blue, and ChaosKnight attended. This was also the tournament that the crew also met Redd who asked ChozenOne for a moneymatch after he had sarcastically called ChuDat a newb on the boards. All three of them were eliminated by round 3. Sadly, none of us had the technical skill to maintain stock against the greats such as Anden, Chillin, Azen, ChuDat, G-Reg, and Chinesahh.

TNR spent the next two weeks preparing for ChuDat's next bi-weekly tournament by training their technical skills such as L-cancelling, fast falling, and chain grabbing. ChozenOne also began playing as Falco. This was probably the real start of Team No Respect. The next Bi-Weekly was another disappointment for them, but they could all begin to see that they were all improving. Excitement began dwelling among the newly formed crew, and they all slowly began improving their mindgames, and individual skills. ChaosKnight was excellent at shinespiking, but where he lacked technical skill. Blues was and still is very adept in grabs and had then began to use Young Link after once again being inspired by ChuDat. ChozenOne's Falco game slowly began to transform into the most technical, but most lacking in mindgames of the trifecta of players.

Enter Roy (Doll). ChozenOne was one day sitting in his class when he began to mention some things about smash to a friend of his sitting close to his person. Being a short and nosey, Doll began to explain that he also played SSBM and that he wanted to come by and play with the crew. Of course, the crew would not decline a new player with different skills. So during the week he came by and practiced for hours with Blue, ChaosKnight, and ChozenOne. At this time Doll mained with Sheik, and had Peach as a secondary. Interestingly enough, it was ChozenOne who suggested to Doll to main Peach instead of Sheik. After playing for quite some time, the crew realized that allowing Doll to join the team of three would be a valuable asset. Thus the Original Team was born.

They took Doll along with them to Chu's next bi-weekly. During the week, ChozenOne had the idea of creating a crew of four. This idea came from his previous obsession of the trading card game, Yu-Gi-Oh. He had been the leader of one of the top 5 prominent crews in the United States; such as TZ (Team Zero), and had spent about 2 years battling for dominance with teams known as Comic Odyssey, Team Savage, Team OverDose, and Crew. Over the week, they all decided that creating a crew name was in order, but all that they could agree on was that they name itself needed to sound short and sweet. Like the existing H2YL. And so the TNR was born. Team No Respect now had a name, and a four person crew... This is also about the same time that the "Official TNR Recruitment Page" was created.

At ChuDat's next bi-weekly, Doll and Blue both got to the fourth round, but CK, and Chozen were both eliminated during the third. This was also the same tournament that Doll beat Chinesahh one game, and G-Reg lost to Anden in a set. Neither of these events would ever happen again. Fortunately for Doll, Husband and Wife were also present, and they see something in Doll which clearly has manifested itself in him today. The two trained him intensely, and it payed off for Doll. Welcome to April.

Redd was now a good friend of the TNR boys, and Doll's Peach was now a force to be reckoned with, and life was good for the crew. Unfortunately, good things never last and Blues and Doll broke off from TNR feeling they were beyond them. TA was looking awfully good, and TA is awfully good. ChaosKnight, and ChozenOne continued to team at two more tournaments, but soon ChozenOne was alone in his membership of Team No Respect.

Blues was gone. Doll was gone. ChaosKnight was gone. ChuDat had stopped holding bi-weekly tournaments because he now lived in Japan, and a dark cloud had now began looming over the smash community. ChozenOne, fortunately, could not live without the game of SSBM in his life so where ChuDat had ended, ChozenOne picked up. Bi-weekly tournaments soon began under Chozen's roof, and the masses began to flock due to their uncontrollable love for the game. This is when I first met The Falcon Assassin (who soon changed his name to Wuss), and NookRulz. Membership was now back, and TNR could be seen not as skilled, but as a Family. This was also the same time that i was first approached by Masa via Personal Message due to his inquisitive nature about my Bi-Weeklys.

Wuss had a second Bi-Weekly with a much smaller turnout, but this is also where he met BizyBozo, and Jiggs. Jiggs was entered into TNR due to a possibility of potential, and FOB$ approached Wuss on the TNR recruitment page requesting to be part of Team No Respect. TNR was gaining momentum, and they were finally what you might call a crew. Masa also joined around this time as well. About one month later Smash G O D asked to join, along with his brother. Wuss also asked for membership to be granted to his friend of olde known as Chris With Lime. The Team had quite a few members ny now, and were all gaining skill quite quickly.

Soon, they were challenged at one of Wuss' Bi-Weeklys by a crew called Team Cn. Through it was a slim victory, Team No Respect was able to defeat their challengers, but as a result, their Team Representative FATS asked if they could join. Enter [[FATS, [[X-Lax, and Majn. This is also around the same time that ChozenOne chose to shift his main from Falco to Jigglypuff in hopes of defeating Doll's Peach. Wuss also shifted his main to Falco due to an undiscovered talent formerly unknown. Nookrulz, along with FATS, and X-Lax went back to collage, but continue to represent TNR down in SoVa.

They have to this day continued to add on new members with the same open arms attitude as Team Arlington, and we are still continue to grow. Some of our more recently added members include G-Fizzle, and Alpha Zealot.

[edit] Personal Histories

[edit] Wuss

His love for smash started when the game came out. Wuss got a gamecube for christmas in 2001, and SSBM and NHL hitz. He played smash with his friends all the time, and Wuss was considered the best. Wuss even trained a friend in the art of mindgames. Wuss played roy at the time and his friend played marth, they knew nothing of the world of smash, but enjoyed the game to its fullest as they knew it. Wuss thought that roy was the best character in the game, by far. He's fast, powerful, and His forward smash was easy to spam with the c-stick

The mindgames referred earlier, were basically psyching your opponent out by rolling together, and stopping eventually, and using either forward or down smash to get your opponent. It was simple, but fun. They played a lot, but Wuss soon got tired of it because he thought that he was the best, and that he couldn't get better.

My freshman year in high school (2005-2006), I went to these "get togethers" which a parent of one of my friends from school organized. (not the people I played with before). He needed some entertainment for these, so I brought smash and some other games. I dominated of course. Later in the year, someone from school who I knew, but wasn't exactly friends with (didn't hate or like), approached me and asked if I played smash. I paused, and answered yes. I think I also included a little, " and Ill own you too" sort of comment. He asked if I would be interested in joining/founding a smash club at our school. I said sure, why not, and thus my obsession began. He had found out that I played smash because the friend who hosted the "get togethers" told him that I would own him in smash. So we had our first meting, and although I was clearly good (in retrospect), they beat me. They had basic knowledge of smash that I did not have. My friend (chris aka chris with lime) informed me of Smashboards, and "The Falcon Assassin" was born.

They continued to play every friday after school, sometimes being harassed by rich stuck up jocks , but they didn't care. They knew they had fun and that was all that mattered. As time went by, Wuss knowledge increased from hours and hours on the boards, reading and posting constantly, to further his knowledge of smash. Wuss finally was able to beat his friends at school, and although he still wasn't the best, Wuss could hang with them pretty well. Although he was better, Wuss was constantly hungry for more knowledge and more skill to obtain.

I stumbled across some threads that noobs posted saying that they had trouble wavedashing or l cancelling or whatever. I didn't post in these or make any of my own, but I used what others posted to learn the advanced ways, and thus my desire to become better grew immensely. I saw a short info thing about wavedashing and became fascinated by it. I couldn't really do it, but I wanted to so badly. I continued also to play every friday, and my experience grew rapidly. I soon mastered the SH, and spammed it and was able to win readily against my friends. I still wasn't quite where I wanted to be. I worked harder and harder until, I could finally wavedash, and SHFFL. I felt like a god. I had mastered these simple techniques, and they had unlocked an entire world of smash that was unknown and unthought of. I tried to use these techniques so much, that I lost even more. I found myself becoming more and more frustrated, because Everytime I lost, I knew that I had more skill than he did (tech skill anyways), but I didn't play the best that I could. I wasn't sure what to do. So I just kept practicing. Soon, I decided to learn how to waveshine. I played marth at the time, but I knew that this would unlock more options and further my knowledge of the game. I learned it a very curious way. I use my my thumb on the b button, and reach my index finger up to the y button, to jump out of the shine. Thats the way I learned it, and I cant unlearn it, but It wokrs pretty well. I soon boasted of this fact to my friends. My tech skill was increasing more and more every day from the practice I was getting. I switched mains to samus because I loved to spam, and I loved running away. We were sitting in a room, about to play, when one of the smashers entered their name in. I had never seen this before, and was taken aback. Everyone decided to enter one. Lime, leet (oh god...), and I sat there thinking. I knew I wanted a name, and then it popped into my head, Wuss. The perfect name. Humble, funny, and comes with a bag of mindgames. (which I didn't even realize until just now.,..). Thus, Wuss was born.

I wanted to go to a tournament. I had seen pro vids. And was extremely impressed by chu dat's performance in FC3. (I mean who wasn't). I decided to go to his bi weekly, and I couldn't wait. I went with two of my friends, and coaxed my mom into driving us there. She wasn't to thrilled about sending me to play video games for 6 hours, but I convinced her. I knew I had no chance of winning and was mainly just excited to see chu dat who was a celebrity to me at that time. I was almost as nervous walking up to his house as I was when I waited in line to shake Al Gore's hand. Like I said, he was a celebrity. I actually did meet doll, CK, and blues there, although they probably don't remember me being there. I even two stocked doll in a peach ditto, after which he proclaimed that he wasn't very good. Although this cheered me up, I took a brutal double 4 stock from CK who destroyed me with marth in two games. I didn't expect much, but I thought I was better. I left that biweekly, knowing my place (at the bottom) and being thoroughly happy with my time there. Chu was as nice as I thought he would be, and he made my day. I mean, meeting the 2nd ranked player in the US was HUGE!!!! I loved it.

I continued to improve, and went to a CCX tournament a couple weeks later, still maining samus. I played sheikij there, beating him in a friendly on Battlefield, and was stuck in pool with Neo and the Newb. I managed to take a stock off of Neo's roy which was a huge improvement, and although I was really happy to meet (he'll never remember me though...) Neo, I wasn't quite as star-studded because I realized that they were people just like me. I took another brutal souble four stock from the newb, and went 4 and 3 in my pool which didn't let me advance, but made me happy. The tournament went a little long, and I forgot to call my mom. When the friend who came with me dropped me off at my house. I knew I was in trouble. I forgot to call when it went late, and I knew my mom would be upset. She yelled a little, and said that I couldn't go to another tournament for a long time because of it. I was upset, but I knew that the punishment was kind of fair.

I still played with my friends occasionally, but I couldn't go to any more tournaments. I started to play marth more, and fox as my tech skill grew and grew. I could now beat my friends most of the time, and my confidence was building.

Zec, a member of trail's crew, Pm'ed me about meeting up with Wuwu who would (wow thats some illiteration) be coming to DC. I was really excited, so I gave him a call. We set up a time, and location, and all that was left was to ask my mom. I knew she wouldn't like it, but I didn't think she would go berserk. I asked her if someone that I met on the internet could come to our house, and she flipped. At first I couldn't understand why because all smashers are so cool and could never have bad intent, but then I realized that my mom didn't know this, and that what I asked sounded pretty d*** sketchy...

I was then banned from smash, and she stole my game away from me. I chose the path of good behavior, and we got on each others good side again.

I was about to leave for a camp, when a scheme hatched in my head. I had been visiting smashboards all along unbeknownst to my mother, and I still had desire to play. I asked if before I left, I could play for 30 minutes. She complied and gave me the game, and left me alone with it. I played, and when the time came, I switched the disk of smash with a game disc that looked similar. I gave her back the box, and prayed that she didn't open it and look to hard at the disc. I left the next day still thinking about what I had done, and with knots in my stomach, hoping that she didn't find out.

I managed to enjoy my camp anyway, and came back to find out that nothing had happened. Relieved, I began to play again when my mom wasn't home, and I improved more and more. I then started to want to go to another tournament, so I looked online again. I found out that Chu's biweeklies had ended, and that chozen was stepping it up. I posted saying that I would come to his second/less popular biweekly, not knowing exactly how I would get there. I realized that my dad could probably take me, but he would have to be willing to do it behind my mothers back (that sounds kind of sketch...). He was extremely reluctant, but I managed to convince him, and I made it out. I met chozen there, and reaffirmed myself a little with lbues. Wuwu also made it, and I talked to him about what had happened, and he said it was all cool. I knew that smashers where cool. I also met biz there, and recalled playing him at CCX. I realized that these would keep my love for smash alive. So I kept coaxing my dad to take my, and I liked playing so much. I saw TNR's page, and decided to join. I knew that TA was out there, but I wasn't sure how serious they were about letting a noob like me in, and helping me grow. I met up with chozen, doll, and CK a couple of times late in the summer, an improved vastly from playing them. At one of these meetings, I was losing all of my matches of course, but then I decided to play chozen's falco in a ditto. I had been learning some basic falco combos and do's and dont's, but I didn't think I was very good. I two stocked him. I played the best I had ever played up to that point, and I remember blues commenting that my falco was "hot". Out of rage ( I don't blame him), chozen challenged again. I beat him again but by one stock. I then realized, that falco was my destiny.

I now play falco as my main, and am still getting better. My mom still has no idea that I stole the game back (although she "gave it back" eventually), and that I have been to tournaments since that CCX. I love smash, and hope that this community never dies.

[edit] Fob$

Back in Febuary, my brother was on aim with a friend. Somehow, his friend found some smash videos. Eitherway, my brother and I were very impressed even though we didn't know what was going on. At this time my brother was jumping from obsessions (Tales of Symphonia). My brother went to his friends house and formed what can only be called a "rival" Over the next month, my brother sorta dragged me in to playing smash w/ him every day for an hour in order to become victorious. Back then I was playing fox because I was VERY impressed by "Shined Blind" and Pikachu was no good (chao PIKA). The next time my brother went to his friend's house he obtained a sure fire victory. After a very successful victory, my brother decided to play some of the people at his "computer club", which held 2 stock tournaments. Although he got far, he lost to the "best" smasher in the school that used Doctor Mario. This is where I come in. Because my brother lost to a Doctor Mario player, i decided to help him train by using Doctor Mario temporarily. At this point I was very frustrated by Jigg's easy edge guard on fox. Although fox had a large advantage over Jiggs, I couldn't see through the continuous bairs that continued to aggravated me. When I played Doc, however, I could win by spamming SH pills and fair. The edge guards started occurring less often because I had pills and a cape to prevent it from happening. Delighted by this, I began to take Doctor Mario more seriously by reading some of the guides and participating in the forums. I had actually made an account back in august but never used it. In addition to the things I read and watched to make my doc game better, I watched the combo video "Overdose". HOWEVER, I Did not switch just yet. My brother instantly gained victory over "best player" and he was the #1 smasher in his computer club. Around this time I decided to show jonathan (5%) Shined Blind. Like me, he was very impressed however, he decided to maintain Sheik who he had always used since 4th grade. Still using fox as my main at this point, we played smash every weekend. After attending a different tournament held by school kids, my brother made 50$. He grew very interested in the competitive side of smash and began to research. Soon after he attended Bowsertree's fest in Baltimore. Surprised that he wasn't as bad as the though he was, we attended Arcade Smash, and CCX in May. The tournaments were amazing. I made tons of friends and had a great time. Back then, I was the "VET" for playing an animal and Doctor mario. After this we all (Aero, me , 5%, Jazn, Patrick), began to attend tournaments to where we are today. Although many of the people that were in our previous group quit, they were replaced by many other friends that were interested in the smash community. After two more tournaments, i decided to change my name to "FOB MONEY" because me and my brother used the the term "FOB" a lot because we attended a church where a lot of immigrants straight from Asia came from. Today I play a very technical style of smash which continues to grow. I also play smash every day after school with friends, and smash at night with my brother.

Stupid Facts: ~ 5% got his name back when I was CLEARLY (lol) better than him. We were all playing smash in my basement and he told me that he could beat me 50% of the time. I told him he was wrong and that it was more like 5%. Jazn, who was brainstorming names, laughed and told 5% to be 5% tax (completely random). However he used it. hahaha

~ My brother's name and my previous names were from a LONG time ago. We both had two different plushies. He had a Shamu one, and I had a Pikachu doll. He came up with the name Aeroshamu, and I made Chaopika with my obsession of Sonic. His name eventually changed to Aeroshadow. I would have used my name in smash, but both Chao and Pika were both stupid names.

~When we all chose our names, my brother was still uncertain. We all told him to be RING. This was because one of our strange ideas was to be crew "pro wannabes" FOB MONEY (this was still an idea back then)-Bob Money (we thought he was pro) Jazn- Azen Ring-King 5%- we never thought of anything...

[edit] Masa

i saw true life: im a professional gamer on mtv and saw killaOR mad skillz. i thought i was ok at this game so i went to chu's first biweekly. i didn't know chu or a single person there...it was extremely awkward...but now, i know people. I remember chz1 (falco player) doll, and ck from chu's biweekly and asked to smash w/ them sometime and started attending his smash fests. I train w/ doll, biz and ck weekly even though im not getting better (very frustrating).

[edit] Jigg

2001: i bought ssbm, played it until i unlocked everybody, mained bowser, got bored, went back to diablo2 Later 2001-2004: played every now and then with friends (ssbm is great as a party game), mained bowser, picked up roy December 2005: i found out there was a competitive side to smash, but wasnt very interested realized jigglypuff wasnt a crappy character, started to use her June 2006: found out about smash boards, has been hooked ever since. mained jigglypuff, and kinda used link July or August 2006: chozen and CK told me to main marth, so i did September 2006: started to feel a hatred of marth, still used him because he could tip people October 2006: still feeling my hatred toward marth, i learned some rest combos with jigglypuff, but still mained marth because he can tip. November 2006: still hates marth, wishes my jigglypuff was better, and starting hate myself for not smashing with TNR very often.

[edit] Fats

"I played the 64 game all the time. I bought ssbm the day it came out. I still play it to this day. I asked chozen if I could come to a biweekly this last june. I played a bunch of people, I was probably the middle most skilled player there. I kept attending biweeklies, now I'm part of TNR because of that crew battle. hollar"
