[edit] Stuff You should be Aware Of

IrvThaSol is my user name, but I do go by others. Some of which are ITS(which are initials, NOT the word "its") UnGod (which has nothing to do with the song of the same name by Stabbing Westward, Seriously), and Hannibal (after Hannibal son of Hamilcar Barca, NOT Hannibal Lector). The reason for the name UnGod is, since people were mistaken on my other names, I made a new one, which was originally going to be Godly, but I felt that made me sound like a massively, concieted, prick. So I changed it to UnGod, because its just as simple as Godly, without as much of the prick connotation. Another slightly subliminal additon to the name is when someone fights one with a name like God, they seem to fight harder than usual, so whenever I face people when using that name they are fighting their best, which is what I enjoy the most.

I live in Louisville, Kentucky, which is entirely socially seperate from the rest of Kentucky. I'm now on a quest to join a local crew down by the mall. I like to organize sublocal sized tournaments, although it gets quite mindbending to manage everything, and I have already organized three at my school. Results are listed below.

I am very, very fond of machinima. I like the following: Smash Fighter, Smashtasm, Peach's Slutty Adventure, Not Exactly Royalty, Brawlgasm, Silver Crisis, and Wario-Savior of Mankind. I have created the machinima page and it is currently under revision as what to do with it.

When I play Captain Falcon, I like to do, what I call a "Double Reverse Falcon Punch" (although it's techincally a RAR'd Falcon Punch) and am known to be able to utilze effectively it at the most random times.

My official stance on tiers is, that they exist. However, I perfer to think that they measure levels of advantage toward other characters. Lastly, but definitely not leastly, is that Skill outweighs Tier every time , Bar none.

I have found, throughout my entire life, that I am intensely lucky. Whether it's finding money easily, or getting lucky seeding in a tourney, I'm just plain lucky. Many people are envious of this attribute of mine *cough cough*EXCEL*cough*, but I like it.

[edit] My Story

This is my entire history with the great franchise of Super Smash Bros. I hope you enjoy it, or even learn a thing or two from it. Timings as to when each event occur, are either kept secret in order to create some form of anonimity, or simply because I do not fully remember.

[edit] N64 Time

[edit] A Brief Encounter With Fate

Haii!
  • My only real encounter with the original Smash Bros was at a lock-in I attended when I was in grade school. I had ventured down the hallway of my school to find that, in my then current science and english teacher's room, a group of the other attendees had set up an N64 with Super Smash Bros. running. I had never played it before, so I gave it a shot, and I instantly loved it. I picked up playing Kirby, because I had played one of his games before. Although my experience was brief, it was what would set me up for enjoyment of the series. However, due to a lack of Smash Bros. at the lock-in the following year, the game fell out of my view. At least until........

[edit] Bleeding Melee

[edit] 1095 Days Later

JOE had teh Ph1r3!
  • After having transfered to a new middle school, after my rather non-stellar performance in 6th grade, I began to develop new friends. Well just friends in general, because no one at my first middle school, which shall remain nameless, really liked me. The main friendships I forged were with a boy code-named simply JOE and another called Shadowmoj. We all had a similar interest in video games, whether they were console, or handheld. I finally felt as though I belonged somewhere, but that is a story for another time. And so a strong friendship led to simple hang-out visits to each other's homes.

[edit] Through The Fire And Flames

Hiii!
  • On one of my early visits to JOE, he challenged me to a simple game of Super Smash Bros. Melee. I had relocated my old friend, if you will. I would then of course resume playing as my old standby of Kirby. I didn't even care how I played, I just knew I had found my calling again. JOE would main Roy, and would consistently kick my ass. I did realize he was better than me at the game, so I set out to fix that.

[edit] A Copy of His Own

  • At the Christmas I requested a copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee more than anything. Christmas came and along with it a copy of a game which had been topping sales charts for years. With my new game also came a small realization. I could not ever effectively fight any one as Kirby. Since I did not really rember much of when I originally played the first game I could not know then that Kirby had gotten a massive nerf. This did slightly discourage me, however this is where my friendship with Shadowmoj pushed me in the correct direction.

[edit] Hit or Missle

  • Shadow was a fan of the Metroid series, and after introducing me to it proper, I too became one. I am still one now. The way this affected my Smash game was the basic turning point of my Melee playing. Since I had become a fan of Metroid I decided to then play as Samus. The switch was perfect. Her long range tactics were perfect for me, and I finally matched the skill of my friend and rival in Samsh Bros., JOE. Times were good. We three played Smash Bros. (and other games) as great friends. Even JOE's pest of a brother, MIKE, joined us frequently in playing.

[edit] Under Wing and Paw

  • But things were not entirely sunshine and rainbows, as they never are.The one, or rather two things which aggravted me the most were the space furries, Fox, and Falco. It seemed whenever I fought them, they would unfairly be quick and powerful. It went to an extent of hatred where I did not ever want to see them, or play any of the games they were in. I did then follow the ancient saying, "If you can't beat them, Join them". This failed miserably. Due to Fox's extreme speed for such a small character, I was horribly dis-oriented whenever I played him and I would contstantly self-destruct. Falco did no better, as his strange weight threw me for a loop and I had too much difficulty ensuring I kept up with everything. While these two did anger me greatly, they always did give me something to fight against in a fervor.

[edit] I'm using an Action Replay without looking both Ways!

  • Although the two constanly loomed over me, as impending figures, playing was still great. After a certain point, I did foolishly obtain an Action Replay in order to cheat in my games(obviously). With it I cheated at many games. Billy Hatcher, SA2B, and of course Smash Bros. Luckily for me, no adverse side effects occured, in spite of every warning I recieved. However the AR was only compatible on my Gamecube, due to mine being an older model than JOE's. So when we first attempted to utilize the debug function on his Gamecube, it did not read the disk, however when I transported my entire system over, It worked fine. The debug mode was so fun. Although we had explicit instructions on how to use it, it did take a decent amount of trial and error to figure out everything. Nothing could stop us.

[edit] The Announcement of a Lifetime

  • In May of 2006 JOE and I(Shadowmoj had geared more toward hanheld games and MIKE didn't really seem to care) had both seen the trailer for the new Smash Bros. game and were at a basic loss for words. While my internet situatuion was that of nearly non-existant, JOE had regular access and checked every update. Once middle school had ended, and the summer came so did more vists to and from my friends. Alas we would all go on to entirely different high schools, and the only time we would see each other would be during breaks, but we were still the best of friends.

[edit] Sitting on the Dock of an Eternity of Waiting

  • With freshman year, came a change of scenery and a need for new friends. Luckily for me (again), Some one accepted me. He was a junior code named Qairyl, or something like that, let's just call him Q. I met him in my orchestra class, and he seemed to be able to endure my freshman attitude enough to be nice to me. He too was a gamer, and by becoming his friend I also was the genral friend of his cadre of friends at my high school. They were SQUEE, EXCEL, & ALEX?!, and they were all good guys. Although they did not introduce me to the Super Smash Bros. Club at my school, no that was another of my fellow freshmen.

[edit] The Greatest Club Ever

  • A freshman, who would later become a firefighter volunteer, one day told me of a club where the main goal is to simply sit around and play fun games of Super Smash Bros. So then one Friday I attended it, to find that there were great players there. I immediately joined and improved my skill grew exponentially it seemed. I cannot quite remember if some of Q's friends were already in club or if I told them of it. But they came none the less. Times were prosperous. A sort of derogatory nickname I earned by using Samus' missles in quick succession, almost all the time, was "The Missle Mini-Gun".

[edit] The Rising Wave of Change

  • During my sophmore year, the club saw a majordrop in player attendance. Some of the main founders of the club, and some serious competitors stopped showing up often. Though the outlook was not entirely bleak, I brought into my cadre of friends a new Smasher, codename N. Two others also came into the fold, they're called LUCCI(Luchi) and LAMBO. The real dissapointments were the delays in Brawl's release. I mainly used SmashWiki, and YouTube to learn more about Japan's version of Brawl. I couldn't really tell the secrets to JOE because he significantly didn't want to ruin anything for himself. I did show him a video of Final Smashes, which was difficult as I had to keep telling him to stop watching so I could check to see if he knew if the character had been announced. He accidently did see R.O.B., which freaked him out, until I consoled him on it saying that he didn't see a robot. He later thanked me for telling him that it wasn't once he'd found out that it was a robot. Eventually, Brawl did come, and it was a red letter day, if you will.

[edit] It Was An All-Out Brawl

[edit] The Club's First Brawl

  • With the new game out, the club had great attendance, even some of the people who dropped from attendance the previous year came. The first week we had the game there we stayed until 7 o'clock that night just playing Smash Bros. until we were tired. Although with the new game, old status of who was the top dog player were erased. New status had to be established. So, the official Brawl was on.

[edit] The Phantom Mains

Is that all?
  • When I originally obtained Brawl, I started out using Samus, my old main from Melee. Although I could still use her to a veritible extent, the changes she went through impeded my skill, and it was not quite enough to best my most difficult of foes.I was then prompted to use her other form, however this did not pan out in significant directions due to my own difficulty in KOing opponents. So I then reverted to my original auxillary from Melee, Kirby. He had recieved what I thought was a massive buff, which it was, but I realized my strategy was then too reliant on recovery, and seemed more to stall for a majority of the matches I had. Knowing this I could not go on playing, as that is possibly the most annoying strategy next to spamming.

[edit] Live and Learn

  • After this I fell into a massive slump, attempting to avoid regular games and exploring different game modes. While going through them I really seemed to click with Captain Falcon. One of the sponsers of the Smash Bros. Club used to main him in Melee, and his attacks were fast and moderatly powerful. Therefore, I incorporated him into my cadre of regular players. Also unbeknownst to me, as I played as Captain Falcon, I developed (what I would later call) an advanced perception. It would seem that the matches I played went actually quicker than I thought(at about 7/6 time), as a result of Captain Falcon's quick maneuvers. It massivly improved my quick reflexes, and although it may not seem like much this would greatly help in later fights.

[edit] Keep your enemies Closer

Waaaa Haa Haaa!
  • However one looming factor that occured throughout the entire time that I had Brawl, was that I hated Wario, like Fox before him. I hated him from when he was announced, and I hated him with every part of myself, mainly because I had such a horrible time fighting him whenever played against him. In light of that I followed the ancient saying ,again, "If you can't beat them, Join them". I did not expect good results like what had happened before with Fox and Falco in Melee. It did take a while to become used to him, but once I was, I had virtually no equal (to my knowledge). The change had transformed my outlook on the game and, my thought process when playing it.

[edit] School's Out for Summer

  • Once school had let out for the summer, the first great generation of the club's Smash Bros. players (Q, ARES, SQUEE[and sort of his brother Killy while his sister KELSO did technically stay{Who all, by the way look like total clones}],& EXCEL) would then move onto college. Therefore to stay in contact, we all frequently went over to ALEX?!'s house in order to play Smash Bros. and Halo 3. The summer ended on a good note with my birthday party which was a gathering of many of my previous friends to play some Smash Bros.

[edit] The New Generation

  • Finally school reconvened, and this year I was determined to get the club on the map, for lack of a better term. The club sponser, RA, had at the beginning of my junior year actually turned the underground club into a truly recognized one with its own picture in the yearbook. Also a small splinter group had formed in the room adjacent to ours. It was a group that played Halo 2 on Fridays next to us. With the new year came a jump in attendance. Most newcomers were freshmen, two of which stick out. They were PWNER( who, himself, acknowledged that his codename sounds like boner), and PULSE. Others were people who knew other attendees (Mainly N and myself). They were KAI, and her sister MYVI, DER, and Bianc.

[edit] The Magnificent 35

  • The first Brawl tier list then came out and I was, like many, suprised at the placement of Captain Falcon. I originally debunked it as garbage like many who did not see their mains or favorites in high places. After continued complaints to change a character from my peers I sought out to find one, by the only means that I knew, test them all. In order to do this I made multiple new names and gradually assign 2 characters to those names. It was meant to find me some new characters to play, and to get a better overall feel for all the characters. This was a very effective form of testing, because I could analyze both the name information and which characters I used most effectively.

[edit] Pride Break or The Bird and The Bell

File:250px-Falco0.jpg
Don't try me.
  • Alas, during these tests I easily saw Captain Falcon's many flaws, like horrible priority and attack lag. This disheartened me greatly and I felt I had lost my edge as Captain Falcon because my skill had fallen greatly because of a lack of confidence in my character. This made me generally very angry at tier lists in general although I recognize that they do measure relatively accurately the advantages that certain characters have. At the end of these test I determined my new characters were Mr. Game & Watch, and Falco. They succeded by tailoring more to my own metagame than the other characters. My previous hatred of Falco had dissapated entirely.

[edit] A New Hate

  • The testing was not entirely successful though. I came to loathe Lucario through out the entire test period. It was even worse than the hatred I held for Wario previously. To me he was a difficult character to use and face. It was not truly difficulty, in hindsight, but rather the fact that fights with Lucaro come down to battles of pure attrition. All the time it was a fight of who could last longer. It still gets to me even today, mainly because I can willingly acknowledge that he is a decent character, but ....... He just aggravates me.

[edit] Return of The Captain

Show me your moves!
  • Due to my abandonment of Captain Falcon, my overall skill seemed to degenerate. I had lost my advanced perception, and my reflexes suffered. Once I had realized what had happened i desperately tried to regain skill as my old main. I found that I had not truly lost my skill as him, however my disadvantages were clear, and I played through them by refreshing my techniques often. With my skill still in place, I had returned to my previous glory in full style. I felt invulnerable.

[edit] It's Tourney Time!

  • Beginning in November of 2008, I began to feel as if though my skill had to be properly tested, so around that December, I organized the first main tournament at my school, called the "Golden Laurels Coliseum Tournament". It was a single elimination tournament, mainly because it was just the starting ground. The tourney itself went off without much of a hitch, although I was criticized by a certain person, whom shall not be mentioned, for having an entry fee of $2. I didn't see the true problem, because the winner would win half of the money(the other half went ot the actual club). There were 13 entrants. I won the tournament, along with the title of Master @ Arms of the club, which is basically president of the club. The next tournament was the "Platinum Blade Full Tournament" which was a double elimination with no entry fee....Results will be posted below.

[edit] A New Path, and A New Year

  • Soon after the finish of the first tourney, my friend EXCEL invited me to a tournament at his workplace, in a little over a week from then, during winter break. Finally I had a significant challenge. When I arrived, there were only a few people practicing, so I joined in in order to get some practice. Appartently though I was the first Wario player that they had at their tournaments. Their names were HILT, calic, EZMAC, Protien, Vy, Joshipuff1995(pronounced like Yoshipuff), Hoboz, PIE, CR4SH(who I had technically faced at avideo games Live tournament the previous year), and (allegedly best player there as said by EXCEL) Tactical. I entered the standard tournament(regular) and the side tourney(Low Tier(back when there was a low tier)). I won my first match, however,I feel as though my incredible luck is what got me the match, as it was against a kid that I considered a total noob (although I recognize that all players have the potential to be great no matter what my original impression is). My next match was against my new aquaintance, HILT. And as expected, I had a great challenge presented to me. I lost, but I took it well. My next match-up was against that of EXCEL, which seemed like a match written in fate because we had been significant rivals since one of the matches at ALEX?!'s house during the past summer. He suprised me with a small but marked improvement from the friday before however, he is known(like many of my friends) for an extreme hatred of Battlefield where as it is my favorite stage, and since we only played once on there, as a friendly during the tournament, he probably improved before then and I didn't really notice. Although I lost, the tournament altogether, I didn't lose the lesson. I found that I needed to stay unpredictable as my characters, and to spot dodge. While there, I learned of a crew that was made up of the local players called The Arcana. This prompted me to choose between my original plan to form my own crew, or simply become a regular at their tourneys and join them. I was presented with a difficult task.

[edit] With Great Power Comes .............. Recognition!

  • After much thought I abandonded my want for my own crew (for now), and I began to attend the Tournaments at the mall more often. My skill was obviously subpar to my opponents, although i did not mind as I had fun playing all of them. Due to a lucky seeding in one of the tournaments at the end of January, I placed in 7th (Technically 8th, because I know I wasn't as good as Vy, who also placed 7th).This sort of pissed people off, but it also prompted a new system of seeding. Although finally, I recieved something I had sought after for the longest time, something to brag about. Some of my matches during the tournaments were recorded and posted on youtube. I felt so overcome with a sense of accomplishment. Apparently, one can't just upload videos, so I will provide a link[1] to the video that was here earlier. It's a tournament match between me and my new friend Joshipuff 1995.

.......To Be Continued ..........

    • EXCEL: Its got 3 platforms, which are distacting and interrupting.
    • UnGod: But, you like Smashville, and it has platforms!
    • Q: That has platform singular, this has platforms plural.
    • UnGod: So they're just platforms.
    • ALEX?!: yeah they're floating lichens that grew on a roof of a building, and fused with the bricks, then when the building collapsed from old age, they stayed due to a physics malfunction. So they're just floating pieces of trash, that distract people.

  • On the subject of how Tetris is like other things.
    • Zach (friend of UnGod who doesn't play Smash Bros. extensively): You know it just starts building up, more and more, and you're waiting for a long piece to stick in the hole and it builds and builds mor and more. Then It Happens!
  • On The dying Internets @ 2 AM over facebook.
    • SQUEE: Youtube Poops can be fun, but there's a lot of shit among the gold. ANd even the gold is just gold colored shit really. But, it's like you've been looking at so much shit lately, the gold colored shit looks pretty good.

Also Smasher 13 has a name, but I couldn't recall it while I was writing things in, mainly because they didn't make it too far and they aren't really a regular member of the club.)

[edit] Rules

(Again common to most rules in tourneys)

Official Tournament Rules Super Smash Bros. Club Platinum Blade Full Tournament

[edit] Highlights

The match-up between Mitch and N was won on the biggest "jip technicality" (as said by EXCEL). The final match in the set was played on PictoChat, Mitch (Falco) was juggling N(Sonic) with both on their last life. Mitch had brought N's damage to exactly 1% less than his own when the match timed out. One week later the match was replayed, with the winner ultimately being N.

Many people did not show up for their original matches, however, once the tournament was started, their names remained in the bracket due to an inablity to remove names without an entire reformatting of bracket. Therefore certain people who didn't show up, actaually autoplaced higher then those who did and lost consecutive two matches.

Once again, the most intense match-up came form UnGod v. RA, however the matches became duller as the set went on with both of the competitors barely fighting in the final match.
